I like to keep it short & sweet for these. Let’s just give a bit of background to my music choicesfor this month before i go on to something else – something a bit “deeper,” if you will.
Not all these songs are old. Some are new. as you can see, they vary from “strip club anthem turn it up!!” (“Rake It Up” by Yo Gotti feat. Nicki Minaj) to empowering, assertive songs (“Blow Your Mind” & “New Rules” by Dua Lipa, “Watch Me” by Jaden Smith, & “Congratulations” by Post Malone feat. Quavo). Others are more emotional – let’s put “Sleepover” by Hayley Kiyoko, “Not Mine,” by Miquela (in love with her Instagram), “Sativa” by Jhene Aiko & Swae Lee, “Don’t Take The Money” by Bleachers (co-written by Lorde – fun fact!) & “Saturn Song” by Beach House.
Anyways. This month was about me getting into my groove. It was about me accepting that I can be assertive & cocky while also being emotional & vulnerable. It was about me loving women & feeling good about it. It was about me going on adventures with myself. It was about me staying up late & thinking hard about things – some serious, others not so much.
I’m getting into my groove. I’m getting into my groove. I feel more at peace with myself than I have in over a year. Typing that is incredible. I can’t believe I am typing that. Yet here we are. Here I am.
Okay – I’ve talked too much, but I wrote something little about how I’ve been feeling this past month. I don’t know – I’m a bit awkward with my “poetry” still (working on it) but I think it will get my point across in a succinct yet emotional way. Enjoy.
Listen to the playlist here. I wish you all a peaceful beginning of October.
Hello, friends! As you all know, I love making monthly playlists. It helps me associate songs with events & people. I have very strong associations to music; if I listen to a playlist filled with songs from a certain period of time, memories will come rushing back in the most vivid way. I love that about myself, so I’ve taken the opportunity to make monthly playlists ever since I found out how cool it was to do. Also – it helps me organize my favorite songs. There’s nothing I don’t like on these playlists!
This month, I’ve held on too tightly to some people, & have been scared to make connections with new ones. I’m working on that. I’ve also been really sad & angry about not making it back to school. I’m working on that, too – & music is a great way for me to cope.
I have a pretty eclectic taste in music, but I think I’ve organized the songs I’ve been listening to most in a cohesive way. I hope you like them as much as I do!
It’s officially without a doubt been a year since I’ve started making playlists for each & every month of the year! I am so glad I started doing that for myself. It’s not like I only listen to those songs on the playlist during that month; they’re songs I collect over the period of that month & feel some connection to. The goal? To make a playlist that will effectively put me into the headspace I was in & emotion(s) I felt during a specific month.
This month’s playlist has a lot of Lorde. Her album just came out, of course! I relate to a lot of Lorde’s lyrics, I love her sound, her individuality as an artist, a performer, & her talent as both a singer & songwriter. I wish I could say what my favorite off the album is – but truly, I can’t. They’re all wonderful.
I’ve also been enjoying various sound effects/striking beats; my inclusion of some of Glass Animals’ best work (in my opinion) reflects that! I’ve also been listening to a lot of Frank Ocean, particularly his song “Chanel.” On a more personal level, you might know I shaved my head at the end of June. “Chanel,” to me, is a representation of fluidity, androgyny, & being yourself while not truly knowing what or who that is. Funnily enough, there is a song called “Androgyny” on the playlist, too!
Finish up with some songs I just like to bop to (or nap to)! I call that a thorough playlist, if you ask me. I hope you enjoy.
